I thought it would be a good idea to define my target audience for “Today is Friday…” topics. Today is Friday is for individuals on a team, those who lead a team and the team itself. A team can be as large as a fortune 500 company or as small as a couple dating.
Now with that out of the way, allow me to share my intent. As one who leads several teams, I decided years ago I didn’t want my team to see me in the same way I saw my previous bosses or team leaders. I was one of those who hated pulling up in the company parking lot and seeing my boss’s car. Maybe you arrive home from the office, and enter your home and wish you were back in the office. Maybe your team aggravates the heck [H…E…C…K] out of you. Well, that can all end today. I did it and so can you.
Here are the 2 actions I took that changed it all for me:
(1) I changed my relationship with my boss; I didn’t wait for my boss to change. I decided to make it my job, my new project, my goal to transform this relationship. I made it my point to find out what my boss needed of me as it related to my job. I then followed the example of Jesus and served my leader’s requests better than anyone else.
(2) I decided to be the person I wanted my boss to be. My aunt would say, whatever you search for is what you’ll find. You want to find that cheating spouse, look for it. You want to find that faithful spouse, look for it. Go on a search to find what you want to see in a boss and become that. Make a list of actions you can take and review them everyday. Becoming the leader I wanted my boss to be did a couple of things: it improved our relationship and created better synergy within my own team.
Transform your role on the team and transform your team.
Today is Friday! Why don’t you make it count?
