The Business of Running Your Life
Part 3 – A Gift Defining Purpose
Giving your life a purpose
So many extra-ordinary individuals have asked me this question a time or two, how do I find the purpose for my life? Why do I exist? I’ve determined that you can’t find your purpose, instead you must give your life a purpose. Now, how do you do that? The simple answer is start with what you have and use it for someone other than yourself. If I were you, I’d list everything I have that can be used to help or benefit another. Don’t feel bad if your list is short. The shorter the better. Those of us who have a longer list have more items to place our focus. Having a short list ensures greater success because it’s all you have to concentrate on.
Make something special happen
Using what you have to make something special happen is how you give your life purpose. You see I’m gifted to talk, so I use this gift with purpose to teach as often as I can. I teach my teams. We even created a small group for our twenty-something year old children and their friends. In this group, we teach them how to handle life issues and provide direction on how to use their gifts with purpose. My point is, find a way that you can use whatever it is you have to serve another. This is called purpose.
I wish to reassure you that every human-being has been given at least one gift, talent, skill or craft. It’s this special gift that gives you the opportunity to have purpose for living. It gives you the opportunity to make something great out of your life, your business.
There’s an ancient story told about a master who left his servants with various gifts. He left one servant with one gift. He left the next servant with two and then the last he left five. The servants who had multiple gifts did great things with theirs and the master was very pleased. However, the servant with only one gift did something very “common”, he did absolutely nothing with his. I like to think that he thought of his gift as inferior to the other servants’. He didn’t value it, he didn’t value what he had to offer. The same is true with our lives. Average individuals don’t see the value of their gifts because they compare them to those who have more defined gifts and those who are using their gifts. It’s our goal at Kerry A. Clark & Co. to help you use your gift no matter what it looks like. BTW – it’s enough to make you great.
The gifts you’ve been given are the core of your life, it’s your main focus.
Today is your Friday. You have a gift and that gift can be used for someone other than you. If you do this your life defines your purpose.
