Part 2<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don&#8217;t know about you, but talking about money can be exhausting, especially when you&#8217;re having financial issues. \u00a0In this post, we are going to share step one to budgeting which is to separate your income and know where the money is going. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We like to \u00a0separate our money by specific categories. \u00a0We start with the categories that have the potential to upset our budget and household the most. \u00a0Before we get into that, let me give you this caveat. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/about-pamela-kerry-a-clark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pamela and I<\/a> decided that the best way to reach our financial goals was by putting all the money together. \u00a0We don&#8217;t believe in having separate accounts and separating the bills by hers and mine. \u00a0Instead, we separate by categories. \u00a0We&#8217;re not suggesting that you should following our techniques, but get ideas from ours and create the one that best works for your particular situation. \u00a0By putting our efforts together, we can run our home, our business without having to point fingers at who pays or didn&#8217;t pay what. \u00a0We do this together.<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1403 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2-400x400.png?resize=400%2C400\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2.png?resize=400%2C400&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2.png?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2.png?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2.png?resize=600%2C600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2.png?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20171006-TIF-SM-Whats-in-a-Budget-Part-2.png?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the categories for our budget that have emerged over the years as we&#8217;ve worked to improve our financial status. \u00a0Keep in mind that the order isn&#8217;t as important as establishing categories and setting aside the funds to cover each category.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Mortgage Payment. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The mortgage could be the biggest source of financial issues if you spend it on other things. \u00a0Have you ever gotten a month behind on your mortgage or rent? \u00a0Being behind brings a level of stress and anxiety that&#8217;s not worth having. \u00a0After going through this scenario on various occasions, <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/about-pamela-kerry-a-clark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pamela and I<\/a> wrote into our <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/familyplan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Family Plan<\/a>\u00a0that we never want to be in this place ever again. \u00a0So as a result of planning, we setup an account that holds nothing but our mortgage payment. \u00a0We direct-deposit and when it&#8217;s time to write the check, we never have to worry whether the funds are available. \u00a0\u00a0We forget this part of our income exists. \u00a0It&#8217;s almost like we don&#8217;t have a house payment as we never have the funds in hand. \u00a0Also, there&#8217;s never a risk that we spend our house payment funds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Auto Loans.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Because auto loans are usually the second largest payments a person could have and after implementing our mortgage account, we decided to do the same for our auto payments. \u00a0We never allow these funds in our hand. \u00a0This way we never spend our auto payment and we finally stopped the cycle of getting behind on these payments as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Support and Dependent Care.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0If you haven&#8217;t figured it out yet life isn&#8217;t simple and neither are your finances. \u00a0Because we have a blended family, we have <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/child-support-works-for-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">child support<\/a> payments and other planned dependent care payments to consider. \u00a0\u00a0At first we struggled with this not only financially, but mentally. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t until we applied the principle of separating our income did we begin to master this category as well. \u00a0We have an account for that too. \u00a0You could possibly be thinking that we have a lot of accounts; we do, but the trade-off is worth it. \u00a0It has brought peace to chaos.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Bills and Household Spending.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0I know you were probably wondering when will we get to bills and other expenses. \u00a0Again, there&#8217;s a separate account for that. \u00a0Your bills, at least ours, are the hardest to track and keep up with. \u00a0They vary in amounts and come sporadically throughout the month. \u00a0However, having a separate account will ensure that you won&#8217;t spend the money that&#8217;s designated for your bills. \u00a0I like to make certain we only include the mandatory expenses, the things we can&#8217;t do without like water and electricity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Personal Spending.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Life can be very disappointing and dull if you work hard everyday and on payday have no funds left for yourself. \u00a0This category is very important to helping you feel fulfilled. \u00a0You really do need an account for this. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/about-pamela-kerry-a-clark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pamela and I<\/a> use a wonderful tool called the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/living-on-the-leftovers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simple Card<\/a>&#8220;. \u00a0With this account, we put aside money for our own spending and we get to spend this amount any way we desire. \u00a0It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/living-on-the-leftovers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like having an allowance<\/a>. \u00a0It&#8217;s actually a reward for maintaining the discipline of <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/nothing-more-than-new-priorities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">budgeting<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Giving.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Last but not least; we have a special account (<a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/dont-leave-home-without-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AMEX Serve<\/a>) that allows us to have designated funds to give toward others. \u00a0We have a goal to be a blessing to others with <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/dont-leave-home-without-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">random acts of kinds<\/a>.
