{"id":1489,"date":"2017-11-10T03:00:39","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T09:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/?p=1489"},"modified":"2017-11-16T15:31:59","modified_gmt":"2017-11-16T21:31:59","slug":"the-bills-most-people-forget-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/the-bills-most-people-forget-about\/","title":{"rendered":"The Bills Most People Forget About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Paper We Do Have Enough &#8211; Part 2<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I promised in <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/when-you-have-enough\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my previous post<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we\u2019re going to begin with a real-life list of bills. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t have to do these in any particular order just as long as you list every bill you have. \u00a0Before we get started, let\u2019s define what I mean by a \u201cbill\u201d. \u00a0A \u201cbill\u201d for this exercise is a recurring expense, they come over and over and over again. \u00a0It\u2019s a payment that you must make on a recurring basis, each month.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bills Everyone Lists<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s start our list. \u00a0It\u2019s okay if you follow along and make yours as we list our example.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rent\/Mortgage \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0800.00<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Car Payment\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 325.00<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mobile Phone \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0115.00<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auto Insurance \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0167.00<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electric Bill\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0300.00*<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gas Bill\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 65.00*<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Water Bill\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 25.00*<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Childcare<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">500.00<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>TOTAL\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 2297.00<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*This asterisk means that these are funny bills, they can and will fluctuate. \u00a0This could create a problem, but we\u2019ll get to that later.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s the interesting thing that happens when you finish making your list. \u00a0Add up the numbers and see how manageable this number can be based on what you (and spouse) bring in. \u00a0It appears that <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/when-you-have-enough\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you have enough on paper<\/a>. \u00a0You know why? \u00a0You\u2019ve left something out! \u00a0We all lie to ourselves about what we spend. \u00a0We want to believe and want others to believe that we are good with our money. \u00a0The truth is, and we learn this the hard way, the majority are terrible with money. \u00a0Most of us, 51% or better, normal people, are terrible with handling money. \u00a0So don\u2019t let this thinking stand in your way to bettering yourself.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><strong>The Missing Bills<\/strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So let\u2019s fill in what\u2019s missing:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Debts\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0300.00\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This represents the credit card payments, the money you owe someone else because you borrowed and any other debts you\u2019re paying.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Movie\/TV App Subscriptions \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a09.99\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You know this is like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0000ff;\">Music Subscriptions\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 15.99<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You forgot to account for Google Play, Pandora and Spotify.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0000ff;\">Cloud Storage\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a04.99<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is more space on that Apple iPhone or Dropbox. \u00a0I call this one that bill that\u2019s out of sight and out of our mind for accounting for it.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Total for the missing bills:\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0330.97<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The \u201cI\u2019m-Not-A-Bill\u201d Bill<\/strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just when you thought you accounted for everything, we\u2019re not done yet. \u00a0You\u2019ve left off even more recurring bills:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0000ff;\">Fuel\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 340.00<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You fill up your car twice a week (30&#215;2) and your spouse\u2019s car once (25).<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0000ff;\">Food\/Dining \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0520.00<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You eat out, fast food, 6 times a week (15*6) and a restaurant once (40).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0000ff;\">Charity\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0250.00<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t forget that small amount you give away to make yourself feel like you did something good.
