The Office Called Home – Part 1<\/span><\/h2>\n

What are you doing with all the records and paperwork you have at home? \u00a0Is there a method to the madness for your own personal files and records?<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Today, let me introduce you to the next section of <\/span>the Family Plan<\/span><\/a> called, \u201cOffice Administration\u201d. \u00a0Pamela, my wife, won\u2019t let me call it I.S. (Information Systems) or I.T. (Information Technology). \u00a0She says that stuff is way too technical. Nonetheless, your home too has information systems and technology needs that must be managed. \u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Since this is the introduction, let\u2019s start with a general question, \u201chow do you keep your records, files, and data for your family?\u201d \u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\"\"Where are your records today?
\n<\/strong>Ideally you have a <\/span>Family Plan binder<\/span><\/a> a place to keep all your records for each year. \u00a0That\u2019s highly unlikely because it\u2019s not normal and I\u2019ve only recently started making <\/span>the Family Plan<\/span><\/a> available. \u00a0So where are your records today? \u00a0Are they in the kitchen drawer or in some place that only you know how to access? \u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Where are the files located?<\/strong>
\nIn this digital age, you probably have both paper files and digital files, but who has access to either? \u00a0How and where is this information stored? Is there someone other than you who know that this data exists? \u00a0What happens in the event something were to happen to you? Does your family know how to get to your family\u2019s office files?<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Who has the keepsakes and precious items?<\/strong>
\nEvery home has the stuff that\u2019s irreplaceable like family portraits, legal documents and such. \u00a0Where is this information maintained and who has access? What does your family do with those items that can\u2019t be reproduced? \u00a0Pictures of loved ones, journals, quilts and gifts that you never want to lose site of?<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>What do you plan to do with the documents that are the business of your home?<\/strong>
\nWhat are you doing with the kids\u2019 school reports cards, birth certificates, and diplomas? \u00a0Is there a plan for special document retention? Who\u2019s managing the working documents for your family (like the family tree)? \u00a0What about the documents no one knows what to do with? <\/span>

\n<\/span>Managing your home office can be out of control without a plan for it.<\/span>

\n<\/span>In this section of the Family Plan, we put a plan together on how to manage the business of your home\u2019s office needs. \u00a0Everyone\u2019s home, every family, has this problem and most suck at it.
