{"id":692,"date":"2017-01-06T03:00:53","date_gmt":"2017-01-06T09:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/?p=692"},"modified":"2017-05-31T17:57:44","modified_gmt":"2017-05-31T22:57:44","slug":"the-people-who-help-make-me-great","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/the-people-who-help-make-me-great\/","title":{"rendered":"The People Who Help Make Me Great"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h2>We\u2019re the Executives of Our Life<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n<div>\n<h3>Part 4\u00a0\u2013 The People Who Help Make Me Great<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s the difference between <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/how-many-pastors-can-you-have\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pastors<\/a>\u00a0and mentors?<\/strong><br \/>\nI see it this way, pastors are church leaders. \u00a0Their role is to help build you in the things of God. \u00a0Mentors on the other hand are people who help sharpen your gifts, talents and skills. \u00a0It&#8217;s not important that you get the terms right. \u00a0What is important is the function these resources provide, be it your pastor(s) or mentor(s). \u00a0My mentors are people that I selected that have what I need to grow in a specific area of my life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why I have three\u00a0mentors?<\/strong><br \/>\nYou may be asking why three? \u00a0What you don&#8217;t know is there used to be four. \u00a0But, why three? \u00a0Actually for me the number isn&#8217;t very important. \u00a0I wish their were a couple more. \u00a0I have a few more areas in my mind that could use sharpening. \u00a0Nonetheless, what each person gives me is what&#8217;s important.<\/p>\n<p>Let me tell you about my three.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mentor 1: The style and value of writing<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;ll begin with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnmaxwell.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Maxwell<\/a>\u00a0whom I&#8217;ve been familiar with the longest. \u00a0John as you know is known as a leadership expert, but to your surprise he&#8217;s not my mentor because of his leadership experience. \u00a0That&#8217;s just a plus. \u00a0What I&#8217;m after is his writing and speaking experience. \u00a0I&#8217;ve learned a lot about writing and being an author from John. <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-701 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/kerryaclark.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great-400x400.png?resize=400%2C400\" alt=\"20170106-tif-sm-the-people-who-make-me-great\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great.png?resize=400%2C400&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great.png?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great.png?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great.png?resize=600%2C600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great.png?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.kerryaclark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170106-TIF-SM-The-People-Who-Make-Me-Great.png?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>\u00a0He sharpens my style of writing and helps me add value in my content.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nMentor 2: Having a big plate<\/strong><br \/>\nThis next mentor was added towards the end of this current list of mentors. \u00a0Pamela and I concluded that I needed a woman in the mix of all these men. \u00a0So we went on a mad search and we didn&#8217;t have to search long. \u00a0We found <a href=\"http:\/\/christinecaine.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christine Caine<\/a>. \u00a0Christine teaches me how to manage the things on my plate, and also how to have a large enough plate for everything I have to accomplish. \u00a0She is teaching me how to juggle a number of platforms, maintain family and run a diverse business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mentor 3: The making of an online mentor and entrepreneur.<\/strong><br \/>\nThis last mentor continues to amaze me the longer I follow him. \u00a0I get more advice from this person than any other mentor. \u00a0Not because he&#8217;s my favorite, but because of the nature of what he does. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/michaelhyatt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Hyatt<\/a> is a virtual mentor. \u00a0His list of accolades is just as heavy as my other mentors and <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/how-many-pastors-can-you-have\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pastors<\/a>. \u00a0Michael teaches me how to blog, have an online presence, how to manage a platform and how to be an entrepreneur.<\/p>\n<p>What I like most about my mentors is that they are all professed Christians. \u00a0Michael has no problem sharing his faith and occasionally throwing a verse of scripture in the mix. \u00a0John is a former pastor and continues to minister on Christian platforms often. \u00a0Christine is like an apostle, she plants churches and ministers as often as she can. \u00a0They all extend their work far into the corporate world. \u00a0They all leverage their gifts to touch the world not through the church, but as The Church.<\/p>\n<p>Putting all that aside, your takeaway from this post is to find (if you haven&#8217;t already) the mentors that can help you sharpen your gift, crafts, skills, and talents.<\/p>\n<p><em>Today is Friday!<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><em>Who are your mentors and why?
