vision, <a href=\"http:\/\/kerryaclark.com\/what-harm-can-come-from-dreaming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">your dreams<\/a>. \u00a0This is a major piece to putting together your Family Plan. \u00a0Why, you may ask; because until you know your destination, there is no way to chart the course. \u00a0Without a destination, you&#8217;re not going anywhere. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today let me go ahead and tell you, we&#8217;re getting into the first steps of turning your dreams into a plan that will get you going. \u00a0You&#8217;re about to move from &#8220;some-day &#8221; Syndrome<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You&#8217;ve heard this phrase often in life, &#8220;one-day, I&#8217;ll&#8230;&#8221;, \u00a0or we&#8217;ll get that &#8220;some-day &#8220;. \u00a0One-day, some-day&#8230; \u00a0What no one ever told you is that one-day = never. \u00a0Some-day doesn&#8217;t exist; it doesn&#8217;t equate to any true date in the future. \u00a0When you hear some-day or one-day, just say oh, you mean never!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal of the Family Plan is to move you from some-day to today. \u00a0Now!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>The 10-15 Year Timeline<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this installment, we will layout the next 15 years so that we can better determine what we need to do (not some day) today. \u00a0We&#8217;re about to chart a course for your life. \u00a0Take out a sheet of paper and number it, instead of 1-15, 2017 &#8211; 2031. \u00a0Just thinking about it like this makes me say, wow! \u00a0In just 15 years, it will be 2031. \u00a0We don&#8217;t have any time to wait or waste; 2031 is just around the corner. \u00a0It&#8217;s no longer far out when you think of it in three 5-year periods.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>The easy stuff lists first<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On this sheet of paper, let&#8217;s start filling in (by each year) the items we know we need to think about. \u00a0I will get you going. \u00a0Easy stuff: college for your children, major family vacations, family reunions, cars for teenage children, etc. \u00a0If you have young children, you&#8217;ll need to consider what they will need. \u00a0Our daughter Tamia will be 11 this year, so here&#8217;s what our 15 year plan looks like with just her items:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2017 &#8211; 5th Grade [reference entry]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2018 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2019 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2020 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2022 &#8211; Tamia turns 16 and would like a car. \u00a0What will sweet 16 bring?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2023 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2024 &#8211; Tamia graduates from high school. \u00a0We all need to be ready for this day.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2025 &#8211; Tamia is now a freshman in college.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2026 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2027 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2028 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2029 &#8211; Tamia graduates from college.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2030 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2031 &#8211; [end of this 15-year period]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notice it&#8217;s okay to have several blank years. \u00a0You&#8217;ll fill those in with other stuff as time goes on, but the point of this is so that you and your family aren&#8217;t caught off guide. \u00a0You can set a course and have a plan to reach a specific destination. \u00a0It also helps to share this with your family so that your children know what&#8217;s expected. \u00a0If you have more than one child, then your timeline will have more entries and less blanks. \u00a0What would happen inside the mind of a child whose parents had a plan mapped out for them?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>The Benefit of a Timeline<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that you see your timeline, start to ask yourself what it&#8217;s telling you. \u00a0For Pamela and I, it tells us we need to start saving our money for a car. \u00a0We can get a head start with this goal. \u00a0It also gives us a picture of just how much time we have before she enters the adult world. \u00a0We need to plan well for these years especially the ones with no entries on the timeline.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a few other ideas to add to your timeline: special birth-dates, special anniversaries and loan payoffs. \u00a0 That last one is a fun one. \u00a0It&#8217;s all fair game. \u00a0Your life needs a timeline so that you can make the best of the time you have available.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><strong>Some-day can become today!<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You&#8217;ll never know, until you try it, how good it feels to have a map that you can follow for your life. \u00a0You&#8217;ve done it without a plan this far and most of us have ended up in a place we didn&#8217;t intend. \u00a0How can creating a timeline for your life benefit you and your family? \u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Leave a comment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vision: The Purpose for My Life \u2013 Part 3 In our previous posts, we discussed the &#8220;big picture&#8221;
