Be Intentional About Slowing the Pace

Learning to Be Intentional from the Strangest Place

Having a desire
Our nephew who is also our son–you know there’s a story, is a huge fan of Jordan’s, the shoe.  Every time a pair is set to release, he knows about it.  Me on the other hand, I’d never know when a new pair releases.  In fact, I can’t tell the new pairs from the old ones, if you know what I mean.  Nonetheless, he plans ahead to be one of the first in his circle and hopefully the only to have the new Jordan’s.  There’s nothing that can stop him from getting these shoes.  I know what you’re thinking, what does this have to do with slowing the pace of life.

Our nephew/son, Torey is determined and intentional regarding owning every pair, past, present and future.  We all have our vices.  My vice is my collection of very expensive pens.  I won’t even mention how much one of them cost.  Let’s just say we can get a couple pairs of Jordan’s.  Here’s the point, just as intentional we are with our vices, gadgets and habits, we must be as intentional with slowing our pace.

What’s not asked of you, you do
Just so you know, more times than not, your boss isn’t going to ask you to slow the pace. On the reverse, more times than not, your boss usually doesn’t ask you to put in all the extra hours either.  Working late each evening.  Checking emails all night.  Playing catch up on the weekend.  Let me just state how I really feel about it.  My followers, the followers of this blog site, are more than capable of getting the job done within the normal working hours.  You can get the job done in 8 hours or less.  All you need to do is be intentional.  In fact, you do it all the time.  Get ready to go on vacation and I bet you finish everything that’s required of you.

Be determine and be intentional
Make up in your mind that you want your Fridays (or any day for that matter) to be different from the rest.  I call this making Friday uncommon.   Just like Torey’s determination to have those Jordans, you too need to be even more determined to slow the pace on Friday.  This doesn’t mean you’re not going to work or even work hard.  It just means you will work harder and smarter.  To get those shoes, means Torey will have to do what he normally doesn’t-save.  To get your Fridays under control, you will have to do something you normally don’t-slow your pace and get your Fridays under control.
