The Giving Card – Part 1
Over the last few posts, we discussed banking strategies, commercial banks and credit unions. Now I think you’re ready for some tools and ideas that will help you take your banking plans to a new level. Planning gives you a way to make your reality your dreams. Let’s get started.
Dream to Give
Do you dream of a day you could give X number of dollars? What would be a goal you could set to give this year? If you have no goals, you have no reason to stretch yourself. You have nothing to strive for. I once heard it said that “God supplies all your needs; but you must 1st give Him a need you have.” Pamela and I like to come up with goals for our giving that create a need for God to supply. We dream of new ways to give.
Giving the Tithe, So What?
Some people think they’ve done something by giving God their tithe (10% of your earnings). I say so what. That belongs to Him anyway. Maybe that’s going a little too far. Congratulations if you do give your tithe. While many will lie and say they do, very few people actually put God 1st in this way. Many will give excuses like that’s an Old Testament thing or it no longer applies. Whatever the excuse, it’s still an excuse and if you fought what needed to be fought as much as this topic, it would serve the world better. Nonetheless, we (Pamela & I) concluded that giving our tithe wasn’t giving or at least not our best.
What if I can’t give 10%?
Since we know that people make excuses and very few practice this type giving, I want to help those who really desire to be givers, but feel they can’t. Let me first say, you can. The problem is you might not want to give. You see anything you set your mind to do, that you desire to do, you make a way. People who don’t want to give aren’t really givers. They’re pretenders and I can help take you from pretending to doing. By the way, their are only 2 types of people: givers and receivers. You can’t be both.
When Pamela and I got married, we discussed tithing and decided that it wasn’t an option. From that moment to this one, we’ve tithed unconditionally. Listen, we understand how difficult it may seem at first to give 10% especially when you need all the money you have and then some. But let me say this, the reason you need all the money you have and then some, is because you’re not a giver. You’re the 2nd person I mentioned, a receiver. You will always need because that’s who you are on the inside. Giving goes beyond what you have in your pocket.
If you have intentions on becoming a giver, you need a plan. It’s not as easy as you think. I suggest you start where you are. If you’re not giving anything, start with 1% and thank God as you give the one 1%. Then plan when you can increase your giving to 2%, 4%, 10% and so on. Work a plan that can work for you.
Today is Friday!
In our next post, we will pick up where we left off, but discuss how and why you should give more than 10%. We will address how we make this happen with what we call our “Giving Card”. The card you don’t want to leave home without. You don’t want to miss this. Until then, what questions or concerns do you have about giving? Leave a comment below.
