Facilities: How You Maintain Your Dwelling
Today we get to start a new (next) section of the family plan. Let me introduce you to the section we call, “Facilities: How You Maintain Your Dwelling.” In this section, we will discuss how we maintain what we possess.
How we maintain our family’s possessions?
What do I mean by this? If you’re new to the family plan or need a reminder, what I mean by this is how do you plan to handle what you currently possess and will possess. Do you even know what’s currently yours? What are you responsible for? Do you have a list of everything you own? Have you ever stated your desire to make improvements or obtain a new home, car, boat, ATV, computer, etc.? All of this qualifies and a plan is the most helpful way to obtain and maintain it all.
A good plan, always starts with the current location. I call it your present state. Define what it looks like today. Over the course of this message series, we will speak to the details you can add and provide examples. Next, you’ll want to define the future state or destination. What do you desire it to look like? The plan, however, is the outline or map to get from the current location to your destination.
A note to consider: don’t get bogged down in defining a future state that may take several years. It’s okay, the plan still works no matter how long it takes to reach the destination. Like any journey, you’ll make stops along the way and that’s why planning is so necessary.
The Benefits of a Facilities Plan
I didn’t realize this until Pamela and I put a facilities plan-of-action in place, but progress is much faster when you have a written plan. Sharing your plan with your family, launches it into motion and reduces procrastination greatly. You want to get something done? Don’t skip the planning phase, it will move you along faster than you would without one.
A facilities plan will not only keep you on track, but ensure that the family is on the very same page. It leaves no room for misunderstanding of what’s happening or what’s expected at the end.
Today is Friday!
We’re beginning the section on how to create a facilities plan for your family, your life, your business. It’s a plan for your possessions; what you currently possess and what you plan to possess. This type plan takes the talking and moves it to doing.
Question: What areas have you been talking about improving, but haven’t got around to doing?
