A Themed Approach
When most of us think of Friday, it usually brings good thoughts and feelings. Most of us look forward to Friday and there’s not much that can happen to ruin it. By default we make Friday a special day.
When I see an event or action that tends to bring about such a positive reaction, I begin thinking of ways to use it to its fullest potential. With Friday being one of these, I choose to take all the positives that a Friday may entail and make good use of it! I use it to bring the current week to an end and prepare for my next week, knowing that it can be a successful week if I prepare.
What can you do to take advantage of your Friday?
The Themed Approach
Can you think of your favorite television show or series? Now think of its theme music. You have it? Hum or sing a little of it. I have a favorite podcast and each time I start a new episode I look forward to hearing its opening theme. Let’s discuss the concept of a theme for a moment. The theme tells you what the show, series and, in my case, podcast is essentially about. It gets to the true reason for the show. I want you to develop a themed approach for each day of your life. I learned this technique from one of my mentors, Michael Hyatt. He sets a theme for each day of the week. More importantly, I want you to set a theme for your Friday and that theme is “slowing your pace.”
How to Overlay a Theme
Having a theme means to overlay your day with this one most important activity. As you process your emails, remember the theme. Slow the pace of your emails…process them. Don’t save them, don’t perform the tasks, don’t reply to unnecessary ones and don’t keep any junk. Clean your inbox. Overlay your workflow for the day with the theme of slowing your pace. You already know that everything won’t get done. Go ahead and prepare the stakeholders with the status. You’ll look more professional. Next slow down the people you interact with. Don’t allow others to make an emergency for you. Their emergency doesn’t have to become your emergency. Schedule those as a priority for next week. Get use to scheduling and get others use to being scheduled. Remember, make slowing the pace a theme song for your Friday.
Guess what another week has gone by. Place another marble in the trash. Do you intend on having the same unwanted results every Friday or will you decide to take control of yours for better results?
Today is your Friday!
You have the right to choose a theme that brings you the best results possible for your day.
