The Art of An Investment Plan – Part 5
How do I leverage what I already do as an investment in myself?
This question, on the surface, seems tough. It’s because you’re at the start or beginning of what I call the “greater you.” You see yourself through the lenses of where you’d like to be in the future; you see through the eyes of your dreams. Seeing this way makes what you’re doing now seem small and even insignificant. Don’t discredit your first steps to greatness. That’s all it is. Now back to the question.
Four Ideas to Help You Find Your Self-Investment Targets
When we decided to face this question head on, we were able to come up with four ideas that were perfect for investing more in what we already do. I hope our initial four ideas can help you find yours.
- Our education. We’d had our college degrees for a number of years before we chose to see them as nothing more than an investment in ourselves. That lead to the best next question ever… How then do we use what we already have to our advantage? We started looking for better jobs (opportunities) that aligned with our dreams. We left complacency behind. Now we have careers that we’re proud of and excel in which provide for our well-being and way of life.
- Coaching. We’re constantly involved in coaching others in becoming a better version of themselves. We decided to perform coaching in a more professional way. We’re not trying to get rich coaching, but rather since we were already doing it, we decided to get better at it. We developed material around our coaching and we have (now) tons of resources we can point folks to. We leveraged what we were doing and invested more into it.
- Pre-marriage and Post-marriage counseling. While it still surprises me that people come to me for this type counseling, we get more requests than any other category. With that said, we take what we know and the lessons we’ve learned to point people to the resources and tools they can use to make marriage all they desire it to be. You’d be surprised at how much we put into this effort, from manuals to (soon to be released) books. The point is this…if you’re already doing it, do it better. Invest in your gift. Make something of it and of yourself.
- Writing / Studying Scripture. This is my number one love. I love to read and write about scripture. This love has birth three online platforms, hundreds of articles, ebooks, physical books, and so much more. Whatever you study and enjoy is a prime target for you to invest. Trust me, there are others out there who can benefit from the work you’ve already done.
Now for the practical how.
One of the best ways to make your self-investment target better is to create a website (or blog). This gives you a forum, platform, you control to post all your content and wealth of knowledge. How about creating an app using an idea you already perform in your own life? Maybe it’s something you do manually today, but would work better on a smart device or computer. It’s time you invested in you.
Today is Friday!
Don’t get caught up in what other websites or apps look like, get caught up in the idea of having a place to promote your gifts. Do it any way you can and in time see it get better and better. Remember you’re taking the first steps towards the “greater you.”
