DIY Home Planning – Part 3
What solutions do you have for the challenges faced with achieving the goals you have for your home?
I can’t say this enough, your life, your home, it’s your business. No one else is going to achieve your goals and aspirations for you. So what can you do, yourself, to overcome the challenges we commonly face that derail our goals? In our last web-post, we talked about four major hurdles and in this one we’re going to discuss how we overcome them. Notice, I didn’t say overcame, the challenges are always right around the corner and you must, just like we must, continue to overcome them. We must continue to run our life, our business.
Here’s what we do to overcome the four biggest challenges we face.
Write it down.
Challenge one was forgetting what we intended to do. The key to not forgetting anything is to write it down. A wise man once told me, “if it’s not written, it doesn’t exist.” You must take the ideas to the next step and write them down. The Bible says “write the vision [goal, idea, plan] and make it plain.” You need the objective written so that you and everyone in your family won’t forget it or lose sight of it. In our family plan lives all the goals and aspirations we intend to accomplish. It’s this plan that keeps our dreams from dying, from us forgetting.
Find a location, a place to keep what you’ve written.
Challenge two was not having a place to reference our plans. There’s nothing like writing something down, then forgetting where you placed it. That’s almost as bad as not writing it in the first place.
You must treat your life and your home more seriously. Actually it should be more important to you than the plans and goals of the business that employs you. Your life, your home, your business should be more urgent, important than someone else’s.
We have a place for our plan, you know what it’s called, “The Family Plan.” Get one. It’s time you had a place for all your plans so that you can review it, reference it, and use it for the guide book for your home.
Set the right priorities.
Challenge three was making the wrong project the priority. As it goes with every business, you can’t do everything you desire all at once. That means you need to set some priorities. Yes, you who has never set priorities for your home need to set some priorities. We have everything written in our plans so that we can make the best decision for our home and set the right priorities. Until you treat your life like your business, you’ll continue to have the hit-and-miss results you’ve been having.
It’s time we got good at prioritizing the activities and initiatives of our home, our life. You’ll thank me later.
Stop losing time.
Challenge four was losing or wasting time. (Going to the left.) Let me say this as stern as I can… We (you) don’t have any time to waste! Tomorrow isn’t a day that’s promised to you just because you have today. T.D. Jakes said this, “the older I get the more I realize, the next minute, moment, second, isn’t promised.” Don’t let the time slip away, you might not get another opportunity. Your home, your life, your family, your business is too important to put off for another second with wasted time.
Pamela and I are learning to capitalize on every opportunity we have and make the most of every day. We live with a plan. Our home which is our business is worth it to us. Using our family plan keeps us focused to accomplish every idea that God’s planted in our hearts.
Today is Friday!
The best exercise you can take is to identify the challenges that get in your way. It’s these challenges that lead one to seek out solutions to the challenges. Fortunately for you, you’re reading this and have an opportunity to take action by creating your own Family Plan. Your big challenges have a bigger solution and it starts with your very own DIY home plan.
