The Concept of a Digital Toolbox – Part 4
In order to become the person you’re not today, you must do the things you’re not doing today. The only question one must answer is… how do you learn the new skills and habits needed to make the transition?
Most successful people listen to messages or teachings to learn.
You won’t find a successful person who isn’t interested in learning more about their craft, trade, skill, or talent. In fact their passion drives them to want more. I’ve found a very simple and easy solution that can help anyone get the learning that will take them from where they are to where they want to be. I listen to messages (or talks) in the form of podcasts.
Make use of the down-time.
In previous years, you would have to go out and purchase messages on cassette tapes, CDs, or get a DVD set. I think we’ve all but said “good-bye” to physical media of tapes, CD’s, and DVD messages. Today, it’s so much easier and there’s more available to meet your specific needs and desires. Technology has made it quite simple for you to get information on any subject or for you to follow others in your field. Let’s talk about the tools we use to increase our capacity for learning. Remember, the tools I’m sharing aren’t all the tools available and I encourage you to find the one that’s just right for you. I have three that I’ll share with you today that I use most often:
-
- iOS Podcasts. While I can’t say I absolutely love the podcast app on my mobile Apple devices, I can say they work for what I need them for. I’ve decided to make sure I hear messages from my three pastors each week. Monday through Friday, I listen to their weekly messages via podcast (audio as well as video). This is my morning-commute-to-work ritual. Each morning, I fill my life with inspiration, instructions, and spiritual guidance. Over a years time do you know how many message you can consume this way? Now’s the time to make a new habit and exchange local radio with podcasts that have the ability to shape and transform your life, your business. BTW – not all podcasts have to be instructional, there are even entertaining podcasts out there for you.
-
- Overcast. Overcast is another podcast solution which only does audio podcasts. I use this app to subscribe to other podcasts, mainly people who I call my mentors. It has a feature that I need when I want to bookmark content I like for later. Overcast allows for its user to save the exact spot (time) so that you can always go back to the desired spot. I use this feature like bookmarks and save them to my Note-taking app, label, and describe why I’ve saved the content. Since my morning commute is filled with spiritual podcasts, my daytime commutes are filled with podcasts for my growth and development. Overcast is a perfect solution for me when I’m listening to podcasts to teach me new skills and leadership principles.
- YouTube. No one should underestimate the power of YouTube. It’s like learning-on-demand. You can find videos on any and everything. For me I use it for inspirational videos that help me stay motivated to do the work we’ve been designated to do. Each Saturday morning (early), I bring my week to an end with these motivational videos.
Remember, you don’t have to use my tools, I want you to have the tools that work best for you.
Today is Friday!
Are you taking advantage of podcasts that can help shape the work you do? Podcasts and videos for the most part are free resources that can take you from your current level to higher heights. It’s your life; your business, how are you improving yours?
