DIY Home Planning – Part 4
Now that you have the basic concept of the DIY Home Plan, how then do we put it together? How do we get it to work for our home?
Let’s put it all together.
You know the challenges that you’ll have or are currently facing. You know how to come up with solutions to these challenges. You’ve probably found a place to store your notes and possibly have your own Family Plan binder. If not, you can get one here. The next question is…what’s our next step?
Use the DIY Plan to…
The DIY Home Plan is a plan. It’s your family’s notes, thoughts, ideas, and written goals. It’s invaluable because you can use it now for the following:
- Prayer. Start with prayer. I am a person of faith and everything starts and stops with prayer. If you’re not, I give you permission to skip this bullet, but if you are use your DIY Home Plan as a guide for your family’s prayer time. This plan is going to take money, time, and energy. With that said, get God’s input on the plan and of course His help.
- A Project. This plan is your project plan for your family. Projects are healthy for all relationships. It gives you and your spouse something to work on together. There is no better way to get and feel closer than to get your hands dirty in a family project. For some, this is life changing when issues have emerged in the relationship. A project takes the energy and the attention away from the problems and places them on the project.
For parents, having a project that involves the kids is just as important for relationship building. Feeling disconnected from your child, start a bedroom renovation project and allow them to lead their on bedroom renovations. When we’ve done this with our daughter, Tamia, it’s done great things. It also surprises us with the ideas she comes up with, like a swinging chair in her room. Go figure. - Navigation. The DIY Home Plan is a navigation tool for your home. Together your family gets to chart the course. The plan gives you a clearly defined journey and has the potential to take your home, your life, to destinations you couldn’t go without one. So I say enjoy the journey.
Today is Friday!
If you’re interested in having something to discuss with God, a project to build relationships with your family, and a map to navigate your family to your chosen destination, use the DIY Home Plan. This is your business and it’s not going anywhere unless you take it there.
