Dealing With Debt – Part 4
What are my major takeaways in dealing with debt?
No matter what, you can tame your debts. Debts are never too far out of control to begin taming before it tames you. And I’m not just talking about eliminating them, but placing them under your control. Let me share my three biggest takeaways to dealing with debt that leads to taming our debts altogether.
List Your Choices
You might think you don’t have much of a choice, but you do. As unattainable as it may sound, we can either live with having debt or we can live without having debt. Here are our options, keeping in mind that we can’t have both.
Make Your Choice
For us, we’ve decided to live without debt since it’s a choice we can [and get to] make. Now it’s your turn, make a choice. If you choose to live with debt, then do it, but within your own set of parameters and no one else’s. If you choose to live without debt, do it and don’t allow others to tempt you to do otherwise. It’s your life and it’s your business.
Implement Your Choice
I’ve found that once you make a decision, the journey begins. You no longer have the anxiety of having to make a choice, you can begin making actions based on the choice. It’s like deciding your major to study in college. There are so many choices, but once it’s decided you can begin to move forward. In the same way, making a choice regarding your debt will provide the same relief. Now get started.
- Make sure everyone impacted is on-board.
- Define the plan for everyone, including yourself.
- Set some boundaries to ensure you stay on course.
- Take regular actions and account of your progress.
