The Concept of A Digital Toolbox – Part 5
How often does television dictate your time, your calendar? In today’s society, convenience is dictating everything we do even how we view movies and television. Gone are the days when a person must be home in front of a television to see their favorite show or risk never seeing it. Who in the world wants to live life where television decides where you spend your time?
Your time is far too valuable to have your calendar built around what you watch on TV.
You have to admit that commitments, activities, work, and nothing else is standing around waiting on your favorite television show to finish before getting its turn in your life. So why allow television to have power over your calendar. You’ve heard the saying “time is money”, but I think time is more valuable than even money. There’s no reason to waste it because of a TV show (or movie) when you have the option of watching later or at your demand. You need a plan for how you do television or television will have its own plan for how you spend your time, your life, your business. It helps if you have tools in place to manage how you consume television shows, movies, and video content as a whole.
Having the perfect tools puts TV on your time.
To help you begin to formulate a plan that works for you and your family, I’d like to share a few of the tools that you may find in the Clark household.
Netflix. I feel as if everyone is in a Netflix craze. I’ve been a fan of Netflix since they launched their DVD subscriptions that were delivered via the mail (snail mail that is). At any rate, Netflix’s video content service offers many benefits.
-
- Movies on demand.
-
- Original Series
- Mobile and convenient viewing, etc.
While we hardly use Netflix because of our subscription to cable television with all the bells and whistles, we still remain loyal to what Netflix offers and provides.
Amazon Prime Video. I must say you can’t go wrong with Amazon. If you’re a heavy user of Amazon and have an Amazon Prime subscription don’t leave the video service laying on the table. Amazon has tons of content offered via this service at no additional charge, from movies to shows and original content. In fact, it’s the Amazon Original Series (like Netflix Originals) that got our attention. Pamela and I actually enjoy Amazon’s selections the most. But don’t just take my word for it, try your own to see what works best for you.
Spectrum TV App. One of the most innovative services that the cable company (internet and phone company) offers is its TV app which is available on smart televisions & devices, and mobile devices. You can take your television viewing experience with you wherever you go without the hassle of another cable TV box. One of its best benefits is being able to add cable television to any room in your home without the hassle of running cable lines. It’s perfect for televisions mounted on walls. This app has transformed our home and made having cable television worth having again.
Firestick and/or Roku. We’ve been experimenting with these devices. Let me go ahead and tip my hat. We prefer Roku. These devices take regular televisions from dumb to smart and smart TV’s from smart to smarter. Roku gives us the ability to have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and the Spectrum TV app on any television of our choice. And did I mention you can control it from your smartphone?
I hope you found some value in the four tools mentioned above. I’m not trying to sell you on any one tool, but rather trying to give you some ideas on how to plan your family’s methods for watching television on your terms and not the broadcasters’. You can, just about have it your way.
Today is Friday!
I bet you never thought of how much work and planning it takes to run your home, your life, your family. There are so many things to think about like the tools you use for movies and how your family watches television. Well, if you don’t do this type of thinking, you’re leaving the control of your life, your home, your business in the hands of someone else.
